The Petricor Fence

The sanctuary is located on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands) and when we arrived at this wonderful place it had been abandoned for more than ten years. Here the undergrowth had taken over all the space
and little by little we have been cleaning and creating spaces for the animals, but even so, there is still a lot to do.
The farm is not completely fenced off, so the animals can escape to neighbouring farms and animals or people from the surrounding area can enter. For this reason, the animals of the Sanctuary are not enjoying
all the space which has been destined for them.
The farm is divided into several terraces. The first one is a large pasture area, where we have sometimes sown cereals. This part is open to adjoining farms and there is no fence, so animals such as goats and
sheep can not use it.
On the second terrace, there is a vegetable garden, the geese’s area and the chicken coop. This part has a
front fence, but it is damaged, and there is no fence on the rest of the terrace.
On the third terrace, there are several areas: the house of the founders of the Sanctuary, the quarantine area and a space for ducks, rabbits, goats, sheep and pigs. In this area, we would like to place a fence, in
order to provide more space for animals, and an "adaptation" area for big animals (sheep, goats and pigs).
Once the animals have passed quarantine, despite they have been separated from the rest for a period of time, they have seen their future living mates. This area is essential because pigs are very territorial
animals and they could bite each other, if there is no prior adaptation.

Budget for materials:
Perimeter fencing
230 linear metres of simple twisted mesh + 115 posters + cement + plaster: 3800 €.

Adaptation area-
50 linear metres of sheepshead mesh + 25 posters + cement + mixed: 415 €.

Total - approximately 4300 €.

This request implies an improvement in quality of Petricor animals’lives. Therefore, they would enjoy more space and grazing areas. It also involves continue saving animal lives which have been victims of
exploitation, abandonment and mistreatment. The Sanctuary is currently unable to pay for the fencing, so we are asking for your help.
