ACCAM is a non-profit association dedicated to the promotion, planning and implementation of programs that create social awareness for support, protection, training and social integration of disadvantaged children and youth who are in many cases at serious risk of social marginalization.
ACCAM is made up of more than 30 centers for the protection of minors. It serves more than 500 children who have been declared in distress due to neglect or abandonment by parents, whether due to mistreatment, abuse, addiction problems, mental health and other reasons. Children who cannot live with their parents are relocated with their closest family (grandparents, aunts and uncles) but sometimes this is not possible.
ACCAM organizes and aligns these centers for the protection of minors in cases where there is no family alternative and children must go to these centers, where they find love, care and education. The old idea of orphanages is long gone. Now the centers are real homes in which a group of children live (usually between 8 and 12) accompanied 24 hours a day by educators and highly qualified staff to attend them professionally with respect and affection. Our houses are true "homes" and the boys and girls who live in them feel like brothers and sisters, knowing that they will be there for the necessary time until they come of age.
ACCAM also develops a Family Foster Care Support Service for the recruitment, training, assessment, and monitoring of families who want to take a child into their home. There is always a need for generous families who are willing to host a child.
Additionally ACCAM provides dwellings to older girls who, upon turning 18, must leave the protection centers, but have nowhere to go. They are girls between the ages of 18 and 21 (many of them immigrants with no one to turn to) who need support and guidance; who seek to find jobs that allow them to become independent to achieve a better future.
ACCAM is seeking the necessary means to carry out these projects that provide such benefit to children and young women. The social services administration of the Junta of Andalucia supports the homes in part but funding is largely insufficient. Additional assistance is needed to cover the expenses generated by the care of the young women currently sheltered, who need preparation, studies, practices, and opportunities. All the effort we put into it will not be in vain. We are convinced that they will be generous and courageous women who are committed to building a better world.
We need your cooperation! Thank you for your contribution.
