Let's buy the ground floor so that Sankofa can continue to be a shared home
Sankofa Espai Intercultural is at risk of disappearing.
The premises we occupy, that shared home that so many people have built with their energy, creativity and love, may fall victim to the property market and be converted into tourist apartments.
After ten years, once the lease expires, the ground floor will be put up for sale in the coming months. Thanks to the current owner, we have an option to purchase it. But in order to do so, we need the collaboration of all of you who have been part of Sankofa over the years.
If we do not manage to acquire the ground floor, Sankofa will disappear. Not only would it become something else, but this house may also run the risk of becoming tourist flats.
The entire neighbourhood knows that in recent years we have been victims of a system that is driving us out of our cities and neighbourhoods. We believe we have a responsibility to resist and preserve our common spaces. To preserve our identity as a neighbourhood community. You can decide that Sankofa will remain a refuge where we can continue to belong, create and resist.
🧡 We saved it once before
During the pandemic, we managed to collect enough donations to keep the space alive for months. Today, we need that collective push again to take a definitive step: to buy the premises, so that Sankofa will never again depend on rents, speculation or gentrification.
🐋 Sankofa for absent-minded people
Sankofa is an intercultural community project. It is a place for meeting and dialogue where different cultures and generations come together and learn together in a safe environment. Here, exhibitions, concerts, workshops and discussions are held... but above all, community ties are forged.

We want to buy the ground floor where Sankofa is located. We want it to remain part of the neighbourhood, the community, and those who believe in culture as a tool for transformation. A home for intercultural dialogue, a refuge that champions and celebrates diversity, creativity and coexistence.

Sovint es una asociación cultural que lleva desarrollando su actividad desde el año 2010, en el ámbito de la sensibilización social. Actuando a través de programas interculturales de sensibilización, educando en la convivencia y el respeto al diferente, reivindicando la importancia de conocerse para caminar juntos. En la actualidad contamos con dos proyectos troncales:
Museo Ambulante de las Culturas:
Proyecto de sensibilización y educación no formal basado en la metodología de aprendizaje significativo a través del contacto con el objeto original, que utiliza la exposición/taller como instrumento para hacer accesible a diferentes colectivos elementos del patrimonio cultural de la humanidad.
Sankofa:
Proyecto intercultural de implantación comunitaria. Nace como un espacio de encuentro y diálogo entre personas y culturas. La versatilidad del espacio posibilita el desarrollo de actividades (exposiciones, talleres, conciertos, debates...) vinculadas a los valores que promovemos. Un espacio libre de violencias y concebido como un lugar seguro para el intercambio y el aprendizaje compartidos a través de procesos participativos y colaborativos, usando la cultura como estrategia vehicular.
