Did you know that, in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, more than 50% of urban transport is Boda-Boda known as motorcycle taxis?
Today in Kampala there are 400,000 commercial motorcycle operators (Boda Boda Drivers ), mostly men, due to cultural barriers that see this job as predominantly male.
This cultural barrier deprives women of the opportunity to have more possibilities of finding work, as they do not have their own mean of transportation, as well as of having an income to improve the family economy and, in general, of becoming independent in many ways.
Additionally, it often exposes them to the risk of escalating violence, as they must make use of random motorcycle operators most of them not registered or trained.
For this reason, the NGO Mujeres Rising for Africa wants to organize a practical training program so that women can;
- Become motorcycle operators.
- Learn to drive the motorcycle
- Take self-defense classes to protect themselves in threatning situations and phisical abuse.
- Training in basic economic and financial management
More independence means more equality, more empowerment, more participation in the country's economic growth and investment in the well being of their children and education.

El objetivo principal de Mujeres Risingfor Africa es empoderar las mujeres de Uganda brindándoles mayores oportunidades laborales en sectores dominados por hombres,así como un acceso seguro a la movilidade e independencia económica, diferenciándose de las mayoría de programas para mujeres que siguenen casillándolas en el estereotipo del rol tradicional femenino.
Mujeres Rising for Africa cree que la participación de las mujeres en los diversos sectores económicos, políticos, sociales y ambientales es la clave para lograr un desarrollo humano sostenible.
