Simai has run his farm for more than 40 years, and during all those years he told me what the worst part of it is: “The Sun.”
He said that the strong heat makes the work harder every day—especially when they have to manually draw water from the pit more than 100 times in a day just to irrigate the crops.
That’s why I came up with the idea of this project: a solar-powered pumping system to make their daily work easier.
The great thing is that this new system won’t only help Simai but also many nearby farms and families who also use his pit as their main water source.
The goal is to build a solar-powered pumping system replacing his old manual one, which—once installed—will be self-sustaining for years to come. We will also create an above-ground water storage tank to make water access easier. Lastly, we will design an irrigation system that relies on water pressure and the new pump.
In the end, Simai’s farm will become greener than ever, with its productivity increasing significantly compared to before, while also creating a much more sustainable workplace — for both workers and the environment itself.
