As most of you know, this spring, life enrolled me in an advanced course in resilience. No application, no warning, and certainly no option to decline.
The diagnosis hit me like a slap in the face. I had absolutely no symptoms, and it was almost by sheer luck that I noticed something myself that wasn’t supposed to be there. And this despite having religiously attended my annual preventive check-ups for years.
But invasive lobular carcinoma, the type of breast cancer I was diagnosed with, has one particular characteristic: it knows how to camouflage itself. It can grow in a way that makes it very difficult to detect, even through routine screening.
I have been incredibly fortunate. The medical team looking after me has been absolutely outstanding. Thanks to their expertise, persistence and teamwork, they managed to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and, quite literally, saved my life.
I will be forever grateful to them. ❤️
Today, after everything I’ve been through, I feel more motivated than ever to turn this experience into something positive. I want to make my own little contribution to breast cancer research, in the hope that many other women will have the same chance I was lucky enough to have.
On November 15, I’ll be running the Carrera de la mujer in Seville alongside my daughters, Valentina and Olivia — 6.4 km on a Sunday morning at 9 am. It means a lot to me that they wanted to join me. Mateo is part of the team too, although he’ll have to run unofficially since boys aren’t allowed to participate. So all four of us will be there!
To mark the occasion, I’ve set up a fundraising campaign in support of GEICAM, a Spanish foundation dedicated to breast cancer research.
Donations are made securely and transparently through the migranodearena fundraising platform, with the proceeds going to GEICAM.
There’s absolutely no need for big donations. Even €5 can make a difference and contribute to research that saves lives.

Desde su constitución en 1995, GEICAM ha realizado más de un centenar de estudios en los que han participado más de 65.000 mujeres y hombres, y efectuado más de 195 publicaciones científicas.
