According to the latest official figures from the Nepal Government’s disaster management authority, 1,114 people have died, 3,916 remain missing and 11,993 have been rescued.
The floods have destroyed villages, roads, bridges and infrastructure, and some communities remain isolated.
Right now, the priority is to continue search and rescue operations, evacuations and emergency assistance.
At be artsy, we have been working in Nepal for almost ten years, and we want to do our small part to help.
That is why we are launching this fundraiser with an initial goal of €2,000.
100% of the funds raised will be transferred directly to the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, the official fund supporting rescue operations, emergency assistance and affected communities.
Once the campaign ends, we will publish the total amount transferred and proof of the transfer, so you can see exactly where the funds have gone.

Uno de sus proyectos principales es Rato Baltin, que desde 2017 trabaja en el oeste de Nepal para promover la dignidad menstrual, la educación, los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, y la autonomía de mujeres, niñas y adolescentes. El proyecto combina educación menstrual, fotografía participativa, formación comunitaria, apoyo a la continuidad educativa y alternativas económicas lideradas por mujeres.
Rato Baltin no se limita a distribuir copas menstruales: acompaña procesos de cambio en comunidades donde la menstruación todavía está rodeada de tabúes, restricciones y prácticas discriminatorias como el chhaupadi. Con el liderazgo del equipo local en Nepal, be artsy contribuye a que más mujeres y niñas puedan vivir la menstruación con salud, seguridad y dignidad, y avanzar hacia una vida con más oportunidades y capacidad de decisión.

be artsy is a non-profit organisation that uses creative expression as a tool for communication, social transformation and the defence of human rights. Through art, education and community-based work, it supports projects that enable people to express themselves, participate and create change within their communities.
One of its main projects is Rato Baltin, which has been working in western Nepal since 2017 to promote menstrual dignity, education, sexual and reproductive rights, and the autonomy of women, girls and adolescents. The project combines menstrual education, participatory photography, community training, support for girls’ continued education, and women-led economic opportunities.
Rato Baltin is not only about distributing menstrual cups: it supports long-term change in communities where menstruation is still surrounded by taboos, restrictions and discriminatory practices such as chhaupadi. Led by the local team in Nepal, be artsy helps ensure that more women and girls can experience menstruation with health, safety and dignity, and move towards lives with more opportunities and decision-making power.

It has been one week since the disaster, and every day we understand a little more about the enormous scale of what has happened in Nepal.
According to the latest official figures from the Nepal Government’s disaster management authority, 1,114 people have died, 3,916 remain missing and 11,993 have been rescued.
More than 21,000 personnel are still involved in search and rescue operations.
But behind these figures is a reality that is much harder to explain.
Families are still searching for their loved ones. Communities have been left isolated. Roads and bridges have simply disappeared. There are places that remain extremely difficult to reach, where helicopters are essential to deliver food and emergency aid.
And the search for survivors continues.
One week after the disaster, rescue teams are still trying to enter tunnels at hydropower plants in Rasuwa and Nuwakot that are blocked by water, mud and enormous rocks. In some locations, there is still hope that people may be found alive.
Right now, the emergency comes first.
Rescuing people. Searching for those who are missing. Getting food to isolated communities. Responding to the most urgent needs.
And this work needs to be done by the specialised teams on the ground.
There will be time to talk about reconstruction. It will be necessary, it will be enormous, and it will probably take a long time. But right now the priority is different: saving lives and getting help to the people who need it.
That is why we have decided that 100% of everything we raise now will be sent to the Nepal Government’s official disaster relief fund.
And we now know something very important: these funds are already being used on the ground.
The Government of Nepal has transferred 1 billion Nepalese rupees from the fund to the national authority responsible for disaster management. Of these resources, 67.5 million rupees have already been distributed directly to 15 affected municipalities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Tanahun.
Food is also being transported by road and helicopter to communities that remain extremely difficult to access.
It was very important for us to know that our contribution would go through a mechanism that is genuinely responding to the emergency. And we now know that these funds are already reaching local governments in the affected areas.

One week after the disaster, the situation in Nepal remains extremely serious.
The latest official figures report 987 people dead and 3,916 still missing in Nepal alone. Including the confirmed victims in Tibet, the death toll from the disaster has now surpassed 1,000 people.
More than 11,000 people have been rescued, but hundreds remain missing at hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot. Rescue teams are slowly making their way into tunnels that have been completely blocked for days by water, mud and rocks. In some tunnels they have already managed to advance hundreds of metres, while in others teams are still pumping out water, supplying air and using heavy machinery to open access routes.
The scale of the destruction is enormous. The United Nations estimates that the flood has left 2.2 million tonnes of mud, rocks and debris in the areas analysed so far.
Roads, bridges, homes and hydropower facilities have been destroyed or severely damaged, and some areas remain extremely difficult to reach.
The danger is not completely over. Although the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers are currently below official warning levels and the feared second major flood has not occurred, authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance today in Rasuwa and Nuwakot because of the high risk of further flash floods in smaller rivers and streams.

Just a few days ago, floods and landslides caused a terrible situation in Nepal, especially in Rasuwa and along the Trishuli River.
As of 29 August, Nepalese authorities report 626 people dead and 2,426 missing. These numbers may still change as search and rescue operations continue.
Rescue teams are still working to reach people who are trapped or cut off. Many roads and bridges have been destroyed, and bad weather is making everything even more difficult.
There is also still a risk of further flooding around the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. The situation has improved a little compared to the most critical hours, but the emergency is not over yet.
That is why we are keeping our campaign open.
