Looking for a cause to support this Christmas? Join us in helping ANDEX, the Andalusian Parents' Association of Children with Cancer. For years, ELI teachers have been visiting the paediatric oncology unit at Virgen del Rocío Hospital, offering their time to assist children and parents with English, homework and storytelling. This year, we're raising funds for ANDEX through sports challenges: 7 teachers will run the Seville Half Marathon in January, with one also running the full marathon in February and another competing in a weightlifting event. La Asociación de Padres de Niños con Cáncer de Andalucía, ANDEX, lleva trabajando más de 30 años, codo con codo con la familias afectadas por esta durísima enfermedad en uno de sus hijos. Los menores o adolescentes con cáncer, son atendidos en la Unidad de Oncohematología Pediátrica, Centro de Referencia. Aquí vienen familias de distintas provincias andaluzas, y todos los miembros dela familias deben adaptarse a estas nuevas circunstancias, afrontando separaciones de los padres y hermanos, ausencias laborales, considerables costes debido a los continuos desplazamientos, angustia ante el transcurso de los tratamientos, etc. Y ahí está ANDEX, ofreciendo Apoyo Psicológico, Ayudas Económicas, Orientación social y laboral, Actividades de Ocio (dentro y fuera dle Hospital), Acompañamiento del Voluntariado en la Planta, y a la vez, fomentando la investigación y formación de profesionales mediante becas de estudio, y mejorando las infraestructuras del SAS para procurar la esperanza de curación de los niños con cáncer. Nuestra Asociación está al lado de estas familias en este largo y difícil camino, escuchando, confortando, entreteniendo, ...compartiendo los buenos y malos momentos con ellos.
