EDUCATIONAL PROJECT IN MALAWI: CONSTRUCTION OF 4 CLASSROOMS IN DOWA

In October 2024, we visited St. Mathias Primary School and Mont View Nursery School in Kanyenje, Dowa District (Malawi), and we witnessed firsthand the serious educational challenges these institutions are facing.

Currently, classrooms host more than 100 students each due to the lack of available space. At the primary school, the situation is so critical that children have to attend classes in shifts, receiving only 3 hours of instruction per day. In total, more than 1,600 students are directly affected by these conditions.

After meeting with the headmaster of the primary school and the teachers of the nursery school, we agreed to work together on the construction of 4 new classrooms:

• 2 classrooms at Mont View Nursery School, for the youngest children.

• 2 classrooms at St. Mathias Primary School, to relieve overcrowding in primary education.

The local community has shown enormous commitment: they will provide bricks, sand, water, and labor, while we will cover the cost of more expensive materials such as metal sheets, cement, doors, windows, and other essential supplies.

Thanks to the charity concert “Melodías del Corazón” (Melodies of the Heart), organized in collaboration with the Pentagrama String Orchestra and held in December 2024, we raised the necessary funds to begin the construction of the two classrooms at Mont View Nursery School, which will start in October 2025.

However, one last step remains: we still need to raise €4,000 to finance the two remaining classrooms at St. Mathias Primary School, which we estimate will begin construction during 2026.
