South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. It is also one of the countries facing the greatest educational challenges. More than 70% of school-age children are out of school, and the country has an estimated teacher-to-student ratio of 1:77, one of the highest in the world. Thousands of young people are growing up without real opportunities to develop their talents and contribute to the future of their communities.

After more than 16 years working across Africa, The South Face is beginning a new chapter in South Sudan with one clear purpose: to create opportunities where they are needed most.

To achieve this, we have launched two complementary programmes.

University Scholarships and Vocational Training

We identify talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and provide them with access to university education or vocational training.

Our goal goes beyond funding tuition fees. We support every student throughout their educational journey through mentoring and personalised guidance.

South Sudan needs more teachers, electricians, mechanics, carpenters, nurses and skilled professionals who can drive the development of their communities. That is why we invest in the people who will help build the country's future.

The South Face Kobs : Basketball for Social Change

Our second programme uses sport as a powerful tool for development.

Through weekly basketball training sessions for boys and girls, we promote discipline, self-confidence, teamwork and social cohesion among young people from different communities and ethnic backgrounds. In a country still marked by division, sport has a unique ability to bring people together.

But we want to go one step further.

Our goal is to establish The South Face Kobs, with both a men's and a women's team representing the project and competing against other basketball clubs and schools across South Sudan. We want these teams to become a place of belonging, personal growth and opportunity for dozens of young people.

In partnership with the South Sudan Basketball Federation, we will also identify talented players who can continue developing their potential and, one day, represent their country.

Why do we need your support?

This campaign will allow us to launch our first scholarships, purchase sports equipment, organise training sessions, cover transport costs and strengthen the local structure needed to ensure the long-term sustainability of both programmes.
