MAIN GOAL:
The firefighters of Barcelona will run to help make the Pavilion of Victory by the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation a reality—a center that will care for children and young people with cancer and other serious illnesses.
HOW THE CHALLENGE BEGAN:
In the summer of 2023, we, the firefighters of Barcelona, had the privilege of meeting Matilda and her family through the Bombers Amb Causa collaboration project, aimed at gathering photos for the 2024 solidarity calendar.
After that special photo session we shared with Matilda's family, the idea emerged to run the Firefighters' Race for a foundation that had supported them.
Our goal is to raise awareness and collect funds for the creation of a children's hospice promoted by the Villavecchia Foundation: the Pavilion of Victory.
The 2023 challenge—and the one before—were a success in terms of support and participation, which is why we've decided to join forces once again and continue fundraising to help make this project a reality.
WHY WE’RE TAKING ON THE CHALLENGE AGAIN:
The Pavilion of Victory has already begun its renovation works, and this year, more than ever, we want to contribute our small part to help bring it to life.
It will be a unique and pioneering center dedicated to caring for the lives of children and young people with cancer and other life-limiting conditions.
It will serve nearly 400 families every year, offering them comprehensive care and support through all stages of treatment, with the help of professional teams.
The center will also offer respite stays that include therapy sessions, multisensory stimulation, and a hydrotherapy area.
Children in their final stages of life will also be cared for in a warm and welcoming space designed for the entire family.
Additionally, the project promotes community involvement, supports schools, and cares for the wellbeing of healthcare professionals.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES:
On the ground floor of the Pavilion of Victory, there will be a living room and dining area for the families staying at the hospice.
This year, our goal is to raise €4,000 and contribute to furnishing and equipping this space.
The dining and living areas will offer an ideal environment where families can come together, share meaningful moments, and feel supported throughout the process.
This space will recreate a homely atmosphere, far from the clinical feeling of a hospital.
This will help children and their families feel more comfortable and calm, supporting their emotional wellbeing.
In the living room, both children and their families will be able to connect with others going through similar experiences, encouraging emotional support and shared understanding.
The area will also serve as a recreational space where children can relax, play, or rest in company, helping to reduce the stress and anxiety caused by their illness.
