Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world, with 42% of the population living in extreme poverty and a child malnutrition rate of 55.8%. In this context, the situation of orphaned children, who represent 10% of the child population (about 570,000 children) is particularly vulnerable. These children are more prone to exploitation and abuse, and have limited opportunities in education and health, compromising their future. Lack of government support leaves many children on the street or in precarious conditions. Communities have mobilized to create shelters to provide children with food and clothing. These centers are essential to provide a safe home and family environment for orphaned children. This is the case of Hope House International, a center supported by the community of Kabezi (on the outskirts of Bujumbura) where there are 48 children between the ages of three and 18. The aim of this project is to improve the living conditions of these children and contribute to their overall development. At present, they live in rented premises that are difficult to access and for which they pay money that is very difficult to obtain, since the center survives thanks to the support of the local community and has hardly any financial support. As of May 2024, they have an accumulated debt of six months. A situation that they have already experienced in Kanyosha where they lived, and which they had to abandon due to non-payment. In addition, the current site does not present conditions for the wellbeing of the children, as they have no access to electricity or water, and the beds and kitchen utensils are in poor condition. From Conecta y Actúa we want to support the work of this center so that they can count on the work of this center so that they can have an adequate space for the children to grow up safe and stable, supporting them in two ways. On the one hand, and for a more urgent need, through the purchase of beds and kitchen materials so that the children can grow up safe and stable. On the other hand, and long-term sustainable project, through the construction of a suitable space on their own property to ensure their personal and educational development. To this regarde we would like to buy a land where we can start building their new home.

Le Burundi est l'un des pays les plus pauvres du monde, avec 42% de la population vivant dans l'extrême pauvreté et un taux de malnutrition infantile de 55,8%. Dans ce contexte, la situation des enfants orphelins, qui représentent 10 % de la population infantile (environ 570 000 enfants), est particulièrement vulnérable. Ces enfants sont plus exposés à l'exploitation et aux abus, et n'ont que des possibilités limitées en matière d'éducation et de santé, ce qui compromet leur avenir. Le manque de soutien du gouvernement laisse de nombreux enfants dans la rue ou dans des conditions précaires. Les communautés se sont mobilisées pour créer des abris afin de fournir aux enfants de la nourriture et des vêtements. Ces centres sont essentiels pour offrir un foyer sûr et un environnement familial aux enfants orphelins. C'est le cas de Hope House International, un centre soutenu par la communauté de Kabezi (en périphérie de Bujumbura) où vivent 48 enfants âgés de 3 à 18 ans. L'objectif de ce projet est d'améliorer les conditions de vie de ces enfants et de contribuer à leur développement global. Actuellement, ils vivent dans des locaux loués, difficiles d'accès et pour lesquels ils paient de l'argent qu'il est très difficile d'obtenir, car le centre survit grâce à l'appui de la communauté locale et n'a pratiquement pas de soutien financier. En mai 2024, ils ont accumulé une dette de six mois. Une situation qu'ils ont déjà vécue à Kanyosha où ils vivaient et qu'ils ont dû abandonner pour cause de non-paiement. De plus, le site actuel ne présente pas les conditions nécessaires au bien-être des enfants, car ils n'ont pas accès à l'électricité ni à l'eau, et les lits et les ustensiles de cuisine sont en mauvais état. Depuis Conecta y Actúa, nous voulons soutenir le travail de ce centre afin qu'il puisse compter sur le travail de ce centre afin qu'il puisse disposer d'un espace adéquat pour que les enfants grandissent en sécurité et dans la stabilité, en les soutenant de deux manières. D'une part, et pour un besoin plus urgent, par l'achat de lits et de matériel de cuisine pour que les enfants puissent grandir en sécurité et dans la stabilité. D'autre part, et pour un projet durable à long terme, par la construction d'un espace approprié sur leur propre propriété afin d'assurer leur développement personnel et éducatif.
