Cervical cancer screening campaign in Kinshasa

For a few years we have been working in Kinshasa (DR Congo) trying to make society aware of the importance of cervical cancer screening in women.
In this way, we have designed the Elikia Project –Hope in Lingala-, which aims to establish a sustainable screening program in the Monkole Hospital area and thus reduce the incidence of this disease.
This summer we will return and we will be there from July 1 to 15 an expedition in which Dr. Luis Chiva is accompanied by ten medical students from the University of Navarra (they pay their own expenses). This is our fifth early diagnosis campaign. And we intend to continue for the next ten years until the campaign is self-financing and can function autonomously.
Now we need financial support to pay for the Papilloma Virus tests that cost 7 euros per patient. We have calculated total expenses of about 40,000 euros for this expedition, which includes early diagnosis by inspection, visual, cytology, HPV test, biopsy and possible thermoablation for more than 1,500 patients.
Somos una fundación joven con espíritu de compromiso. Creemos que la salud debería ser accesible para todas las personas, especialmente las mujeres y los niños en situación de exclusión social. El hospital Monkole se encuentra ubicado en el barrio pobre de Kinshasa. El centro trata de dar servicio a todos los pacientes aunque el 48% carece de recursos para costear los gastos de hospitalización.
Creemos que en el hospital Monkole todos los pacientes deberían tener acceso a los servicios hospitalarios, sin importar su situación económica. Por ello, a través de la fundación Amigos de Monkole buscamos recursos económicos para financiar los costes hospitalarios de todas las personas que necesiten asistencia sanitaria.
