Seis años después del terrible terremoto, Haití ha sido devastada por un nuevo desastre natural: el huracán Matthew, de nivel 4, que golpeó a la isla el día 4 de Octubre causando muerte y destrucción. Haití es uno de los países más pobres del mundo y aún estaba en reconstrucción por los daños causados ??????por el terremoto de 2010. Unas 55.000 personas todavía vivían en tiendas de campaña y refugios improvisados, ??????y ese número ahora ha aumentado. Según datos de UNICEF el riesgo de epidemia de cólera debido a la escasez de agua potable ha aumentado en estos días a causa del agua desbordada por las alcantarillas. Ya antes del huracán, sólo 1 de cada 3 personas tenían acceso a letrinas adecuadas, y 2 de cada 5 personas tenían acceso al agua potable. Ahora el cólera y la Zika se están propagando a gran velocidad; además, las inundaciones y los hundimientos del terreno han provocado grandes daños a casas, carreteras, puentes, escuelas y campos de cultivo.

Las Hijas de María Auxiliadora están presentes en el Sur de Haití que ha sido la zona más afectada por el huracán. Concretamente se encuentran en "Los Cayos", "Anse-à-Veau", "Port-au-Prince", "Jeremie" y "Jacmel”.

Nuestras Hermanas nos comunican que el huracán Matthew ha acabado no sólo con vidas humanas, sino también con el 90% de la costa sur, destruyendo hogares y vegetación e inundando los pueblos. Las viviendas haitianas están construidas principalmente de hojalata; inevitablemente estas han sido barridas por la lluvia y el viento, dejando a más de 200.000 familias sin techo sólo en las zonas de Port-au-Prince y Jacmel.

Las Hermanas Salesianas nos hacen saber que en muchas zonas no hay electricidad, agua corriente ni alimentos, y también tienen necesidades de asistencia sanitaria y educación. La principal emergencia sigue siendo la de proporcionar un techo a tantas personas que se han quedado sin casa. Algunos de los centros educativos de las Salesianas que han sufrido menos daños, se han convertido en lugares de acogida para estas familias y en este momento necesitan nuestra ayuda.
En la misión de Anse-à-Veau se encuentran 50 personas acogidas. En este momento un objetivo fundamental de esta Misión es salvaguardar a los niños y las chicas que han perdido a sus seres queridos y sus hogares, y sobre todo protegerles contra la violencia y el abuso sexual, peligro que ha aumentad tras el desastre natural.

Nos piden ayuda para reconstruir las casas de los más vulnerables, para que puedan tener un lugar seguro para dormir. Para reparar los techos de las casas más pequeñas necesitan alrededor de 30 o 40  chapas laminadas, por un importe de 1.000 $ cada casa. 
Además, los hogares necesitarán colchones, utensilios de cocina y estufas, con el fin de crear un entorno que se pueda llamar hogar.

Cada familia necesita 1.500 $ (aproximadamente 1.350 €) para reparar el techo y comprar los utensilios básicos. 

Queremos ayudar por lo menos a DOS FAMILIAS en gran dificultad, por un total de 2.700 €

En esta fase inicial de reconstrucción de la sociedad Haitiana, una ayuda rápida puede marcar la diferencia.

Six years after that terrible earthquake, Haiti has been hit by a new natural disaster: the hurricane Matthew – 4th category – has hit the island on October the 4th, causing death and destruction. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and the damages caused by the earthquake in 2010 are still to be fixed. Around 55.000 people still live in tents and makeshift shelters, and this number is about to increase. According to UNICEF the risk of a cholera outbreak is high due to the lack of clean water and it increased when the water started to overflow from the sewage. Already, before the hurricane, just 1 out of 3 persons had access to suitable toilets and just 2 out of 5 persons had access to drinking water. Nowadays, cholera and Zika are spreading very quickly, while flooding and subsidence have provoked huge demages to houses, streets, bridges, schools and agriculture lands.

The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians are settled as well in the South of Haiti, the most damaged area in the country. Among their Missions we can find “Les Cayes”, “Anse-à-Veau”, “Port-au-Prince”, “Jeremie” and “Jacmel”. 

Our fellow Sisters say hurricane Matthew hasn't just exterminated human lives but it ereased 90% of the South coast too, destroying houses and vegetation and flooding villages. As a matter of fact, Haitians houses are mostly built in tin, which indeed have been wiped out by rain and wind, leaving more than 200.000 families without shelter just in the area of Port-au-Prince and Jacmel.

The Salesian Sisters inform us that in many areas electricity, running water and food are missing and that additional needs of the population include sanitary assistance and education. 
However, the most urgent emergency is still to provide shelter for those who remain without a house nor a roof over their heads. The Educational Centers of the Salesian Sisters which suffered less damages are now places of refuge for these families, but they need our help.
The Mission in Anse-à-Veau has been able to welcome under its facility around 50 people. In this moment, their main aim is to protect children and girls whom suffered losses and lost their home, and to preserve them from violence and sexual abuses, the danger of which has risen in the aftermath of the calamity. 

They ask for help to rebuilt the houses of the most vulnerable ones, so they can have a place where they can sleep safely. To repair the roofs of the smallest houses, around 30 or 40 metal sheets are necessary, for a total amount of around $1.000 per house.
Moreover, the houses would need mattresses, kitchen tools and stoves, so to create a place to call home.  

Every family would need around $ 1.500 (around 1.350 € ) to repair the roof and buy equipment and tools of first necessity.

We want to help at least TWO FAMILIES in great need, for a total of 2.700 €
