Welcome to the Mangily Social Home!
We are 8 volunteers who have come to collaborate with the NGO Agua de Coco in Mangily, Madagascar. This NGO has been working for more than 20 years to provide a home and/or education to more than 30,000 children at risk of social exclusion and malnutrition.
Madagascar is the fifth poorest country in the world. Nearly 69% of its population lives below the poverty line, on less than one dollar a day. The southwestern part of the country is the most deprived, and this is where most of the NGO's projects take place.
During our time here, we have witnessed the extreme poverty that the local population survives from day to day. Among a wide variety of alarming situations, the malnutrition faced by babies, the lack of education of children and adults and the absence of elderly people stand out, but above all, child prostitution and sex tourism.
It is common to walk around Madagascar and see men accompanied by one or more young women, sometimes little girls. It is hard to believe that this situation is taking place in the 21st century, but one only needs to set foot in Madagascar to be aware of this heartbreaking reality. Specifically in Mangily, the village we are in. This was known as the "red dot" of child sex tourism, until the NGO arrived.
Since then, these cases have decreased exponentially and have become the exception. Thanks to the NGO, many of the girls who used to walk holding hands with men in order to eat, now go to school and have a bed and food.
The NGO's project in Mangily provides a home, education and food for 65 girls between the ages of 6 and 18 who have suffered, or are at risk of suffering, sexual, physical and/or psychological abuse. This social home allows them to be kids, which is what they should be at that age.
Thanks to your donation, the NGO will be able to finance:
- The reception of 25 new girls, their food and education.
- The equipment of the new social home that is under construction.
- The security and welfare of the girls, hiring workers who make the project possible (security guards, cooks, educators and school support teacher).
- Material for the hygiene and welfare of the girls (toothbrushes, sheets, replacement of old mattresses, closets for their rooms, school material for the school).
- Support to the rest of the projects developed by Agua de Coco in this area of Madagascar.
But the most important thing is that your donation is not only money; it is hope, opportunity and future for girls who need it.

Somos una Fundación presente en el terreno que implanta un programa innovador basado en la educación como motor de desarrollo. Para ello basamos nuestras acciones en tres ejes: Luchar contra la explotación laboral infantil con la creación y gestión de escuelas en lugares donde no llega la educación pública. Acceso de los niños y niñas a una educación complementaria inclusiva e integrada con marcado carácter medioambiental. Apoyo social a esos niños y niñas a través de su entorno familiar.
