No to Macrophotovoltaic plants! Méntrida wants to keep its fields!
For the defense of the territory and against macro photovoltaic plants that threaten the environment and destroy biodiversity.

Ancient olive trees, wild trees, a wide range of birdlife –protected steppe birds, raptors and local species among others- is a well known part of these meadows ecosystem wildlife, which includes its vineyards with its own Designation of Origin, for centuries indeed. This is the landscape of Méntrida, one of the most unique in Castilla-La Mancha, especially for the streams that flow widely in the gentle hills where they also spring.
But all of this is now threatened with death since a massive speculative project was issued on March 25 in the Méntrida city council: in the absence of a municipal management plan, a group of energy companies such as Viridi, Solaria and Prodiel took advantage of it and pretend to install their macro photovoltaic plants that will spread 2,000 hectares in the municipality (which is 23% of the entire territory)
Added to this environmental disaster is the subjection of traditional agricultural activities, as well as the loss of the quality of life of many neighbors, since these plants are expected to be in front of the doors of their houses. This implies another point to be considered: that all these people will be forced to leave and house prices can fall dramatically.
Is this self-consumption and energy model change? Far from that, it is still an oligopoly supported by abusive prices that our society pays, sweeping the countryside to bring electricity 40 km away, without contributing to the self-consumption of this town nor to the electricity bill.
Although it seemed to be a rumor, it is an evidence of intentions, a public outcry that turn out into " Salvemos los Campos ", an association that has collected more than 1,500 signatures online and by setting information tables against this large - scale destruction of the environment, historical heritage and most profound roots of Méntrida and other villages of this area like La Torre de Esteban Hambrán and Casarrubios del Monte, where similar projects are expected to be set.
It´s time to change this situation and to take legal actions. This is why we need your grain of sand: to be able to stop this unfair and devastating model, to safeguard not only our environment and culture, but our future, principles and rights.
We are committed to fighting against climate change, but not at any price: this massive plants installation of renewable energies must follow a distributed model in balance with other sectors which implies neighborhood participation and a respect for the countryside and nature. You cannot destroy the countryside to fight climate change: destroying the countryside and forests means destroying our planet.

Salvemos los Campos es una asociación apolítica sin ánimo de lucro, con ámbito de actuación en Castilla-La Mancha, que nace en 2021 como respuesta a los planes de varias multinacionales de tapizar los campos de Méntrida con más de 2.000 hectáreas de placas solares.
Nuestro objetivo es la defensa del medio ambiente y la biodiversidad de nuestros campos; trabajamos en informar activamente a los vecinos para que puedan tener una participación temprana en las decisiones sobre todos estos proyectos (siguiendo el Convenio de Aarhus, y ante la falta de transparencia de las Instituciones: Ministerio, Junta y Ayuntamientos) y para que el interés general prime sobre el interés particular.
Somos una asociación ambientalista y manifestamos nuestro firme rechazo a estos planes, invasivos, desproporcionados y carentes de planificación en todos los niveles de la administración.

Salvemos los Campos is an apolitical non-profit association, with a scope of action in Castilla-La Mancha. It was born in Méntrida in 2021 as a response to a corporate planning which purposes are to cover more than 2,000 hectares with solar panels.
We actively work to inform the neighbors about their participation and the responsibility their city council has in order to the resolutions it would take on these projects. Not only has the city council not been transparent in informing, it has been collaborative with these projects, still unknown by the majority of the population of this town. In doing so, the general interest prevails over the individual one.
We are an environmental association and we express our firm rejection of these invasive projects, and the disruptive and disproportionate nature of this agenda, at all levels of administration.
