WHAT IS THE CANGODEEP CHALLENGE?
It is a challenge in which students from different high schools in the Region of Murcia will aim to build a device capable of recording the depths of our seas.
The challenge is not competitive, but its purpose is to learn from each participating team, from their successes and failures, and to raise awareness in society about the need to protect the marine environment through exploration.
High school students will build a device capable of:
- Descending a minimum of 100 meters deep.
- Recording the ocean floor for a minimum of 10 minutes.
- Returning to the surface.
In addition to these three basic objectives, each team may propose additional ones, such as: sample collection, surface position reporting, image analysis by AI,...
CanGoDeep is not just a technological challenge but also a scientific one, demonstrating that deep-sea exploration can also be done with more affordable means. All recorded material will be available to the scientific community.
Moreover, it will also bring the ocean closer to the general public. Typically, when talking about the marine environment, people tend to think of that easily accessible stretch of the coast. However, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. The CanGoDeep challenge will reveal areas of the ocean that would otherwise remain completely hidden.

La mayor parte del océano permanece inexplorado y oculto a nuestros ojos. Desde CORI queremos cambiar eso. Un centro de investigación sin ánimo de lucro que tiene como misión ampliar el conocimiento sobre la última frontera inexplorada del planeta, el océano profundo, para fomentar su protección, utilizando la Región de Murcia como área de estudio y acción, y despertar vocaciones de exploración oceánica.
¿Cómo vamos a proteger algo que ni sabemos que existe?
¿Nos ayudas en nuestra labor? Tu contribución permitirá que:
- Registrar los fondos de la Región de Murcia a más de 100 m de profundidad para ver su grado de impacto y que sirvan de referencia para futuros estudios.
- Crear un museo de la exploración oceánica
- Realizar actividades en centro educativos para despertar vocaciones de exploradores oceánicos.

THE UNSEEN OCEAN.
Most of the ocean remains unexplored and hidden from our eyes. At CORI we want to change that. A non-profit research center whose mission is to expand knowledge about the last unexplored frontier of the planet, the deep ocean, to promote its protection, using the Region of Murcia as an area of study and action, and to awaken vocations of oceanic exploration.
How are we going to protect something we don't even know exists?

- Record the seabed of the Region of Murcia at depths of more than 100 m to see its degree of impact and serve as a reference for future studies.
