From Getxo to Brussels to fight ALS

The DalecandELA team, led by our founder and ALS patient since 2016, Jaime Lafita, will undertake the great challenge of covering the distance between their hometown Getxo (Bizkaia) and Brussels, 1300km, without the help of any motorised means. This terrible disease damages the motor neurons and Jaime wants to show that even with a damaged motor you can live, you can enjoy yourself and you can achieve great challenges like this one.
Jaime and several members of dalecandELA and the Dar Dar association will leave the coast of Getxo on a sailing boat on the 11th of June and will make a sea crossing to the port of La Rochelle, France.
Once there, they will put on their jerseys and cycle the 800km that separate them from the European capital.
On arrival in Brussels, the team will be welcomed by the President of the European Parliament and several MEPs, before whom they will read a Manifesto supported by other Spanish and European associations. The Manifesto aims for the support of the European institutions to promote a substantial increase in ALS research and to get involved in raising awareness of the disease.
The objectives of the challenge are therefore in line with the goals of DalecandELA. On the one hand, to raise awareness of ALS thanks to the media coverage and the meetings with the European institutions. On the other hand, to continue raising funds for research and for the care of those who suffer from this disease.
With your contribution to this challenge you will be part of it and you will help us to achieve our ultimate goal: to find a cure for ALS.
With an amount of 10€ per kilometre, donate as many kilometres as you want to help Jaime and the rest of the team to reach the finish line in Brussels.
Fundada en Julio de 2019, dalecandELA es una asociación sin ánimo de lucro cuyo objetivo es la lucha contra la Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica (ELA) mediante la organización de eventos y venta de artículos, cuyos beneficios se destinan a la investigación para encontrar una cura así como a la ayuda a quienes la padecen. La donación directa es otra de sus fuentes de ingresos.
Con un espíritu y mentalidad positivas como sello identitario, desde dalecandELA se transmiten valores como el esfuerzo, la superación, la actitud positiva frente a la adversidad, la generosidad, amistad, solidaridad y las ganas de disfrutar de la vida a pesar de los reveses que se presentan en el camino.
