600 children gain access to treatment for infectious diseases in Senegal

Thousands of talibé children and teens survive each day on the streets of Saint Louis (Senegal).
They are sent by their families from villages or neighboring countries in the hope that they will receive an education. However, many end up neglected, begging, and are exploited, subjected violence, vulnerable to diseases and malnutrition.
Fundación Asha-Kiran, together with the Association Maison des Talibés, has launched the project “From the Street to the Classroom”, whose goal is to restore these children’s most basic right: protection.
We are creating a school / day care center in Daroum neighborhood that will cater to over 600 children through:
- basic literacy classes (French, English, Math, and Wolof)
• psychosocial support
• daily meals
• and —most urgently— ongoing medical care
Skin diseases like scabies, infected wounds, and malnutrition are daily challenges. Without treatment, they can become serious cases.
That is why this Giving Tuesday we are launching the following challenge:
€2,885 are needed to guarantee essential medication and treatments in the coming months.
With your support we will be able to provide:
- a doctor’s appointment
• medication for scabies
• wound disinfection and treatment
• malnutrition assessment
• medicated soap and basic hygiene supplies
• a clean set of clothes
Every contribution, big or small, gets turned into health, protection, and dignity for 600 children.

About the project “From the Street to the Classroom”
The center operates with a local team of teachers, medical staff, and community educators specially trained to support street children. Additionally:
- we hold hygiene and child-rights workshops
• Children’s Committees are created to encourage participation and self-expression
• local leaders are engaged in order to transform the conditions that perpetuate exclusion from within

La Fundación Asha-Kiran, fundada en 2006, cuenta con casi dos décadas de experiencia en la promoción del bienestar, la inclusión y la protección de niños, niñas y jóvenes en situación de vulnerabilidad en India, España y, más recientemente, Senegal. Desde sus inicios, la organización se ha centrado en la educación, la protección, el apoyo comunitario y el acceso a oportunidades reales que permitan a cada persona desarrollar su proyecto de vida con dignidad y respeto hacia sí misma.
En India, Asha-Kiran ha impulsado programas pioneros dirigidos a niños y niñas migrantes y a comunidades en situación de extrema pobreza, mediante el desarrollo de Centros de Día, espacios educativos seguros y programas de salud y nutrición que han beneficiado a miles de menores. Esta trayectoria ha dado lugar al programa “Young Achievers”, que continúa apoyando la educación superior y la formación técnica de jóvenes que crecieron en nuestros Centros, consolidando así un modelo de transformación a largo plazo. Durante los últimos años, Asha-Kiran ha apoyado a miles de niños, niñas y familias con la ayuda de un equipo técnico local especializado que garantiza la calidad, la continuidad y una sólida vinculación con la comunidad.
En 2025, Asha-Kiran amplió su misión a España con la creación del Proyecto Vínculos, una iniciativa de inclusión social puesta en marcha en Málaga dirigida a jóvenes migrantes, solicitantes de asilo, personas refugiadas y jóvenes que han salido del sistema de protección institucional. Este programa ha crecido rápidamente gracias a una amplia red de voluntariado y a las alianzas establecidas con destacadas organizaciones sociales. Ofrece clases de español adaptadas a diferentes niveles, alfabetización digital, orientación social y laboral, actividades comunitarias y un innovador Programa de Mentores. El espacio, cedido por personas voluntarias, se ha convertido en un lugar de encuentro, aprendizaje y apoyo mutuo que favorece la creación de redes de apoyo reales.
Esta expansión internacional se complementa ahora con el nuevo proyecto “Hogar de Infancia Talibe” en Senegal, centrado en la protección de los niños y niñas en situación de calle y en garantizar su acceso a los derechos fundamentales. Una vez finalizado el Centro de Día, Asha-Kiran ofrecerá atención sanitaria, apoyo educativo, alimentación y acompañamiento social, trasladando a este nuevo contexto los aprendizajes adquiridos durante casi veinte años de trabajo en India.
La combinación de experiencia internacional, capacidad de adaptación a nuevos contextos y habilidad para construir redes comunitarias estables constituye uno de los principales rasgos distintivos de Asha-Kiran. Nuestro enfoque se basa en la dignidad humana, el acompañamiento cercano y la creación de oportunidades educativas y laborales que impulsen cambios reales y sostenibles. En India, España y Senegal, la Fundación Asha-Kiran trabaja junto a las comunidades locales, organizaciones colaboradoras y personas voluntarias para promover un mundo más equitativo, humano y solidario, en el que cada niño, niña y joven pueda construir su propio futuro.
Fundación Asha-Kiran, founded in 2006, has almost two decades of experience promoting the well-being, inclusion, and protection of vulnerable children and youngsters in India, Spain, and, more recently, Senegal. Since its inception, the organization has focused on education, protection, community support, and access to real opportunities that allow each individual to develop their life project with self-respect.
In India, Asha-Kiran has promoted pioneering programs for migrant children and extremely impoverished communities, by developing Day Care Centers, safe educational spaces, and health and nutrition programs for thousands of children. This journey has led to the “Young Achievers” program, which continues to support higher education and technical training for young people who grew up in our Centers, thus consolidating a long-term transformative model. In recent years, Asha-Kiran has supported thousands of children and families with help of a specialized local technical team that guarantees quality, continuity, and solid community roots.
In 2025, Asha-Kiran extended its mission to Spain with the creation of Proyecto Vínculos, a social inclusion initiative launched in Malaga for young migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and youngsters out of institutional care. This program has grown rapidly thanks to an extensive network of volunteers and partnerships with leading social organizations, offering Spanish classes by levels, digital literacy, social and employment guidance, community activities, and an innovative Mentors Program. The facility, provided by volunteers, has become a place for meeting, learning, and mutual aid that fosters the creation of real support networks.
This international expansion is now complemented by the new “Talibe Children's Home” project in Senegal which focuses on protecting and providing access to fundamental rights to street children. Once the Day Care Center is completed, Asha-Kiran will offer medical care, educational support, nourishment, and social support, replicating the lessons learned over nearly twenty years of work in India.
The combination of international experience, adaptation to new contexts, and the ability to build stable community networks is the hallmark of Asha-Kiran. Our approach is based on human dignity, close support, and the creation of educational and employment opportunities that drive real and sustainable changes. In India, Spain, and Senegal, Fundación Asha-Kiran works alongside local communities, partner organizations, and volunteers to promote a more equitable, humane, and caring world, where every child and youngster can build a future for themselves.
