Independent living: a major challenge in ASD, navigable with the right support

My name is Leire, I’m 30 years old and live with level 2 autism, along with various chronic conditions of cardiac, autoimmune, and respiratory origin, among others.

These health issues make everyday tasks —such as going outside, cooking, going to the cinema or a restaurant, or maintaining a stable routine— an ongoing challenge. Even grocery shopping, attending medical appointments, or using public transport can be overwhelming.
I often experience shutdowns and meltdowns, which force me to isolate for hours. I also struggle with communication, interacting in public spaces, managing stress, and regulating my daily rhythm without external support.

Although I was finally able to earn my degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2021, my job opportunities are limited due to my disability, and I currently work remotely from my parents’ home.
My goal is to live independently. I will soon be moving into a house where I can live on my own, but doing so will be very difficult without the right support.

After much thought and guidance from professionals, I decided to contact JasKal, who have already begun training Teherán (my service dog).
She is being specifically trained to meet my needs: helping me maintain routines, manage anxiety or shutdown episodes, accompany me safely in new or public spaces, and give me the stability I need to live more independently.

The total cost of this process is €17,168.34. Despite JasKal subsidising part of it (30%) and having already made some payments myself, I still need to cover €8,412.48, which is why I have created this fundraiser and am kindly asking for your help.

Your donation, no matter the amount, brings me closer to the autonomy I deeply need. Every euro helps cover Teherán’s tailored training, her integration into my environment, her care, and her ongoing support.

My disability is permanent, and my reality won’t change, but how I live it can.
Teherán will help me navigate the barriers along the way.
