Mapi is a dog with severe epilepsy who got to the APAN shelter as a result of a rescue in June 2023, with 18 other dogs. On the day of his arrival he suffered an epileptic attack, by which the veterinarians detected that he was very sick and had never before (in the place where he was) got any type of medical attention.
After several hospital admissions due to epileptic seizures, a foster home was found, where Mapi could recover in a better environment far from what living in a cage meant (he spent 18 hours a day unsupervised, and where medication could not always be guaranteed at the exact time he needed). He only was going out of his cage 2 days per week :-(. Although he has been stabilized, his illness makes it difficult for him to have a peaceful life. He has seizures every 20 days, which can be repeated for 2 hours!!! They leave him exhausted after each episode.
When this happens, he seizures and it is very dangerous for his physical health, since he loses his balance, falls, crashes, urinates on himself, blows his tongue, etc.
Someone needs to support him and help him to get into a safe lateral position to prevent himself from getting hurt. Furthermore, his fosterhome has observed that both on the same day of the attacks and later, Mapi is disoriented, agitated, nervous and emotionally affected.
His medication is crazy expensive. He takes 8 pills aper day and each package costs 75€, plus all the diagnostic tests that have been performed, the hospital admissions and the medical checking that must be done to see how he metabolizes the medication and how it affects the liver and kidney... So far we have paid 4,000€ just for him.
We don't like to ask for money, but we are forced to, since such a demanding case shakes the economy of the shelter. There are more than 70 animals at the shelter that also generate a lot of expenses.
We brought him to the best clinicians and they told us the importance of doing a magnetic resonance, because even though it seems a recurrent idiopathic epilepsy it must be ruled out that there is not a brain tumor or a hydrocephally, in order to be able to make a correct diagnosis and consequently, a correct treatment. This resonance has an estimated cost of around 700-800€.
We are asking you for 2,500€ to be able to deal with the MRI he needs, and to be able to cover part of what we have earmarked for him. This would give us some fresh air to be able to continue helping him.
He did not choose to have epilepsy, but you can choose to help him, no matter how little, the contribution to his quality of life can be huge!
La Associació Protectora d'Animals de l'Anoia (APAN) tiene como objetivo principal luchar contra el abandono y maltrato animal. En su refugio se cobijan 50 perros, 30 gatos y algunos animales de “granja”. Todos a las espera de una segunda oportunidad! ¿Nos ayudas a continuar ayudándolos?
