In western Nepal, some women are trying to take a very important step: moving from surviving to being able to make decisions about their own lives.
Many of them have grown up in contexts where they have rarely been able to decide for themselves. They have experienced child marriage, violence, abandonment or have become widows at a very young age. Often, they have no income of their own and no clear alternative to support themselves.
At be artsy, we are accompanying them through a very specific process: sewing and tailoring training that will allow them to learn a trade and start an economic activity within their own community.
This project began in April and, after a pause, classes will resume in August so that these women can continue their training, complete the process and receive the tools they need to start working.
They come from very remote areas. That is why, during the training, we also cover accommodation and food: without this support, many of them would not be able to participate.
At the end of the process, each woman will receive a sewing machine to take back to her community and start generating her own income.
What does your support make possible?
First goal: €2,000
With this amount, we can cover:
— accommodation and food during the training
— sewing materials, including fabrics
— part of the training
— transport and basic programme costs
And continue moving towards the €4,000 goal, which will allow us to advance the programme and ensure that all participants have the sewing machines and tools they need to start working with autonomy:
— sewing machines for each participant
— materials to start their activity
— continuity of the programme until the end
With your donation, you make possible:
— With €5, you contribute to a sewing machine
— With €95, you make a complete sewing machine possible
— With €185, you cover one month of training, accommodation and food
— With €500, you make the full process possible for one woman
€500 is not just a one-time contribution. It means training, accommodation, food, materials and a working tool so that one woman can start generating her own income.
12 women = 12 real opportunities to begin a new stage with greater autonomy.
If you want to help, now is the time.
Make a donation and help us restart this process.

be artsy is a non-profit organisation that uses creative expression as a tool for communication, social transformation and the defence of human rights. Through art, education and community-based work, it supports projects that enable people to express themselves, participate and create change within their communities.
One of its main projects is Rato Baltin, which has been working in western Nepal since 2017 to promote menstrual dignity, education, sexual and reproductive rights, and the autonomy of women, girls and adolescents. The project combines menstrual education, participatory photography, community training, support for girls’ continued education, and women-led economic opportunities.
Rato Baltin is not only about distributing menstrual cups: it supports long-term change in communities where menstruation is still surrounded by taboos, restrictions and discriminatory practices such as chhaupadi. Led by the local team in Nepal, be artsy helps ensure that more women and girls can experience menstruation with health, safety and dignity, and move towards lives with more opportunities and decision-making power.

12 JunWe’re restarting the campaign: now it’s time to prepare the second phase of the sewing trainingShow less
We are restarting this campaign and we would like to explain what has happened over the past few weeks.
About a month ago, we temporarily paused this challenge because we focused all our efforts on another very important funding opportunity: Migranodearena’s matchfunding campaign.
That campaign was a success. We needed to raise €2,000 so that Migranodearena would add an extra €1,500, and thanks to the support we received, we exceeded the goal: we raised more than €2,300.
Now it is time to restart this campaign, which focuses on the girls taking part in the sewing training in Nepal.
The first phase of the workshops took place in April. That first stage allowed us to lay the foundations of the project, but now we need to prepare the second phase of the training, which will take place in August.
Before the girls return to the centre, we need to buy all the materials they will need to continue learning and, above all, to make sure that when they finish the training they can return to their villages with a real tool to start working.
Each girl will need a sewing machine, cotton fabric in at least eight different colours, matching thread for each colour, sewing machine oil, needles, bobbins, scissors, measuring tape and other basic items to start a small business in her village.
We also need to take into account the transport of the materials to Mangalsen and, from there, to the remote villages where the girls live.
We estimate the cost at around €450 per girl. With this amount, one girl can complete the training and return home with a sewing machine and the basic materials she needs to start working independently.
Many of these girls live in very remote rural communities, where opportunities for young women are extremely limited. A sewing machine is not only a training tool: it is a tool for autonomy, income and future opportunities.
If you have already supported this campaign, thank you so much. We are not asking you to donate again.
What we are asking now is that you help us share this challenge with family, friends and anyone you think might want to support it.
Every time you share this campaign, you help us reach further and make it possible for more girls to complete their training with a real opportunity in their hands.
Thank you for continuing to stand by these girls.
