Anyone who knows me knows how improbable it is that I am signed up for a Marathon! I traded in my cigarettes for running shoes a year ago and it was only a half-thought in the back of my head that I might ever get this far!
I'm delighted to be able to run and at the same time help out the amazing animal shelter here in Barcelona that has been doing incredible work to help re-house abandoned and abused pets for 70 years.
If you have an empty corner in your flat, there is an amazing animal up there just waiting to fill it, I can tell you from experience that you won't regret it! Of course, if you don't, the next best thing you can do is sponsor me to run the marathon!
Yo elegí adoptar un animal y correré a favor de la Lliga, pero si tú quieres ayudar a esta protectora, puedes hacer muchas cosas:
ADOPTA. Si te encantan los animales y eres una persona responsable y cariñosa, en la Lliga encontrarás a alguien muy especial que te dará alegría y te devolverá multiplicado todo el cariño que le des.
APADRINA. Si no puedes adoptar, tienes la posibilidad de apadrinar a uno de sus animales. Podrás ir a verlo cuando quieras, acariciarlo, hacerle compañía y pasearlo si es un perro.
DONATIVOS. También puedes ayudar a la Lliga realizando una aportación económica o material, ya que con ello ayudarás y mucho al mantenimiento de su refugio.
HAZTE SOCIO. Si te das de alta como socio, podrás contribuir al mantenimiento de la Lliga y a que puedan seguir atendiendo a los animales que llegan a diario al refugio.
HAZTE VOLUNTARIO. Si crees que reúnes los requisitos necesarios y eres una persona comprometida, plantéate ser voluntario de la Lliga.
Desde que fue creada en 1944, La Lliga per a la protecció d'animals i plantes de Barcelona tiene como misión acoger a animales en situación de desamparo, maltrato y/o abandono, albergarlos en nuestro refugio en las mejores condiciones y durante el tiempo que sea necesario hasta encontrar para ellos un hogar definitivo y responsable donde sean cuidados y queridos.

A marathon is a big challenge. It's great that you've linked it to a good cause. As a dog and cat lover and father of a daughter who's passionate about animals and hates seeing them badly treated (as do I) I hope it's a big success. Ánimos!!!
