Just over three months ago I was dead, to all appearances. My husband and I were caught in a snowstorm and the cold stopped my heart. Even the doctors weren´t sure if there was any chance that I would survive, or that, if I did, I would be recognisably myself. Conventional wisdom has it that you can't survive a 6 plus hour cardiac arrest without terrible consequences.
But the medical team in the Hospital Universitario Vall d'Hebron didn't think about giving up. They worked to the limits of their ability, at the borders of what they thought might be possible, on far too little sleep, and they saved my life like they save so many lives every day. In doing so, they opened up new protocols for the treatment of accidental hypothermia that will save more lives in the future. The men and women of that team are my heroes.
I am running the Barcelona marathon 2020 to raise funds for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit which saved my life and the unsung heroes who work in it. The money raised will go directly to the intensive care to help them in their work. Please help me to make a contribution to support them in that!

Hace tres meses no tenía latidos de corazón, ni signos vitales, me pilló una ventisca mientras hacía senderismo y estaba al borde de la muerte. El equipo médico del Hospital Universitario Vall d'Hebron me devolvió la vida y espero hacer un poco para compensarlos.

El 15 de marzo de 2020, cuatro meses y medio después del accidente, correré la maratón de Barcelona para recaudar fondos para la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Vall d'Hebron. El trabajo que hacen salva vidas todos los días y es muy importante. Por favor, ayúdenme a ayudarles a ayudar a todos.
Vall d' Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus es un parque sanitario de referencia mundial donde asistencia, investigación, docencia e innovación se dan la mano. Somos la suma de cuatro instituciones: el Hospital Universitario Vall d' Hebron, el Vall d' Hebron Instituto de Investigación (VHIR), el Vall d'Hebron Instituto de Oncología (VHIO) y el Centro de Esclerosis Múltiple de Cataluña (CEEM). Trabajamos juntas con el mismo espíritu pionero y un objetivo común: mejorar la salud y el bienestar de las personas.
